Adapted Recreational Internship | Can Play’s Organizational Information
This adapted recreational internship is organized by Can Play Sports. We believe all children have the courage to play, but barriers such as limited family budgets or the need for an adaptive environment can keep them from participating. Can Play strives to increase the positive impacts on youth through the growth and evolution of adaptive and no-cost sports and recreational activities. The organization has created programs for underserved participants to allow them to play and build self-confidence despite the barriers.

Adapted Recreational Internship Program
Can Play Sports and Adapted Recreation Internship is a comprehensive training program created to ensure that interns with a background or interest in healthcare, sports, exercise science, or related fields, gain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide innovative and quality services while mastering an understanding of the exercise precautions and adapted methods of exercise and sports development across various abilities and skill levels. In accordance with our mission and vision, we hope our Can Play interns will enhance the experience of our special kids and adults attending our programs. Intern roles & responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership in program/camp functions while working in alignment with the vision of our organization.
  • Participate actively with all age groups and ability levels.
  • Sanitizing equipment and assisting with maintenance of equipment.
  • Offer additional skill or game ideas to enhance our programming.
  • Assist in developing future programs.

Can Play will work with interns to meet their required hours but due to special events and projects, interns may exceed those hours slightly in order to meet the requirements of the Can Play internship program. Can Play requires flexible hours including evenings and weekends but we will make every effort to work with our intern’s schedules.

As a non-profit organization, Can Play’s intern program is non-paid, however it allows for students to pursue a paid part-time position outside of Can Play walls. Students will be required to intern approximately 10-15 hours/week, with limited morning shifts; the majority of shifts are available during the afternoon and evening hours, Monday through Thursday, from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM, and some Saturday mornings.
